Sr. Data Scientist

Sr. Data Scientist

Super Bit Machine makes competitive multiplayer arena shooters that unite players on PC and mobile. We have an opportunity for a Senior Data Scientist to join our team in Santa Monica where they will be helping us revolutionize competitive mobile gaming by maximizing our ROI.

We are looking for a talented and experienced quantitative analyst who can proactively dive into the data with the tools to overcome our biggest challenges: formulating models to predict user behavior and driving insights about the product. To this end you will be self sufficient in accurately modelling, predicting, segmenting the data in order to formulate your analyses and communicate them to our marketing and product teams.

You must be a team player who is thrilled to apply the most efficient and valid statistical techniques to generate and answer our most important questions. We want your business insight to drive our live first game and to build a world class department capable of understanding what drives value for our players and how we can use that to grow and deliver more of the experiences that they love!

Responsibilities Include:
  • Predicting LTV based on user acquisition source. Installs are expensive and getting more so every day, and we want to make sure that we are spending our sizable warchest on sources that are giving us players that love our game (and shutting down buys on disappointing sources as soon as possible).

  • Driving product insights so that we are proactive in ensuring a fair playing field for the esports teams that are investing their org’s time with us. Our players are smart, skilled, and sharp -- and you will need to be one step ahead by empirically identifying our successful (and less popular) product decisions.

  • Ensuring data integrity across our different platforms. This includes our mobile measurement partner (AppsFlyer), our 3rd party game analytics system, and any in-house solutions that we develop in the future.

  • Guiding engineering teams to create new tools to make your job easier and to allow insights to be automatically available to relevant team members. You will originate the strategies that our engineers can implement in terms of modelling and warehousing our data.

  • Author execution plans for A/B feature tests including how many new users must be acquired in order to achieve statistical significance, if necessary.

Job Requirements:
  • PhD or Masters in statistics

  • 2 years experience in mobile free to play gaming

  • Experience calculating predictive LTV

  • Mastery of R or Python

  • Mastery of SQL and ability to ETL the data you need

  • Mastery of Excel

  • Experience working with user acquisition data from a mobile measurement partner

  • Experience working with huge, complex data sets -- experience with Hadoop / Spark or Redshift / Snowflake a plus

  • Passion for answering challenging and potentially heretofore unanswered questions and (and providing a confidence interval!)

  • Ability to manage concurrent projects and live tests in a dynamic and exciting environment

Job Type:
  • Full-time

  • Full benefits package

  • Unlimited PTO
